First Trailer For Oscar Contender 'The Railway Man'
Toronto Internatitional Film Festival is a launching pad every year for big Oscar contenders, and this year has been no different. Glowing reports have been flowing for films like Mandela: Long Road to Freedom and Gravity but none more-so than Jonathan Teplitzky's new film The Railway Man. TIFF's discerning audience gave the film, based on the true story of a man name Eric Lomax who confronts his tormentor decades after the war has ended, a standing ovation.
Lomax is played by the always amazing Colin Firth with Nicole Kidman, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jeremy Irvine and Stellan Skarsgård rounding out the impressive cast. Today we get a taste of what the excitement is about with our first trailer for the film.
I make it a point to watch anything Colin Firth is in since he is one of my favorite actors working today; but, even if it weren't for his involvement, The Railway Man is the kind of movie I get extremely passionate about. I love summer blockbusters as much as the next guy, but give me a thoughtful film examining matters of the human heart, soul and concepts like forgiveness and I am over the moon. Or, don't take my word for it, watch the trailer below and admit that is a film that demands to be seen in a theater!
What do you guys think? Does this have the potential to be a great film? Or, is it just cynical Oscar bait? Let your voice be heard in the comments below!
