The Cabin in the Woods gets distribution!

Deadline is reporting that the long finished The Cabin in the Woods may finally see the light of day.  The horror film which was produced and co-written by Joss Whedon(Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Avengers) has been more or less sitting on a shelf the last couple of years due to the financial problems of MGM.

Naturally, any film involving Whedon has an automatic built in audience, not to mention the pedigree of Director and co-writer Drew Goddard of LOST fame.  Apparently studio optimism has increased even further now that Chris Hemsworth one of the stars of the film is about to become much more marketable after his turn this summer as Thor(a part he hadn't even auditioned for when this movie was completed).  With the possibility of this increased visibility Lionsgate has apparently stepped up to distribute the film.

As a Whedon fan, and to a lesser extent a fan of Drew Goddard as well, I am definitely looking forward to this movie.  Though no release date has been set yet, we can probably expect an October release just in time for Halloween.

Let me know if you guys are excited about seeing this film or if you are expecting just more self aware, disposable horror trash ala Scream 4.
