Trailer Tuesday - The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
I am an absolutely huge JRR Tolkien fan. I first read the The Lord of the Rings as a young teen and by the time 2001 had rolled around I was reading them once a year. Naturally, I was over the moon excited for the announced Lord of the Rings trilogy back in 2001. What I love about the trailer I have chosen for today is that it reminds me of the feeling of infinite hope and excitement I felt as an 18yr old every time I saw another image from Peter Jackson’s films. Unfortunately for me, when the films finally arrived I was extremely disappointed with the results. I know that many of you will disagree, but I feel that Jackson fundamentally missed the spirit of Tolkien’s most popular work. I have come to accept Jackson’s movies and even enjoy them as quality fantasy films, even if they will never be The Lord of the Rings for me.
Posting this trailer isn’t about the movies that we all have on our shelves that we have seen countless times. Looking at this trailer today is looking back at when I drug my entire family to see Thirteen Days in the theatre because this teaser was going to appear before the movie. Today is about remembering when The Lord of the Rings movies could be as big as your dreams and the goose bumps we got when the Fellowship moves through the pass promising the amazing Christmases we will have for the next three years. So are you guys as nostalgic for this clip as I am?
