The Superman Lives costume that might have been . . .

If you are looking for a last minute costume idea this Halloween and thought you might want to go as the man of steel, make sure you don’t give Tim Burton a call.  Steve Johnson, a special effects artist, released photos on his Facebook page showing the preproduction work he did for Tim Burton’s Superman Lives back in the late nineties.  That film was never made, but it’s still really fascinating to see what might have been.  What I love about the pics is that they show an artistry and craftsmanship to be admired; it was simply led in the wrong direction.  So for all the grief we give Bryan Singer about Superman Returns, let’s at least breathe a sigh of relief that we never had to see Superman as a Tron knockoff.  If you are curious about the other details surrounding this film from the casting of Nicholas Cage to Kevin Smiths involvement and why the movie was never made, check out The Greatest Sci-fi Movies Never Made (Fully Revised and Updated Edition)  which has a pretty extensive section on this film.  In the meantime, enjoy the pics below and let me know what you guys think . . .
