Superman has a Director . . .
Word is spreading like wildfire all across the internet that Zack Snyder (300, Sucker Punch) has been tapped to direct the Superman reboot being ushered by Christopher Nolan (Inception, Dark Knight) over at Warner Brothers. I have to admit I'm not sure how to feel about this news yet. Snyder has definitely proven with his past films like 300 and Dawn of the Dead (2004) that he can make exciting and visually interesting movies. My concern is one of tone.
Nolan has always had a very dark sensibility and Superman obviously needs to be optimism taken as far as it possibly can without descending into camp. Bringing in the director of Watchmen and 300, which are films which wallow in irony and cynicism, seems a very odd choice.
One thing we know for sure is that it will look amazing. But will it be able to match the nearly flawless Richard Donner classic? Only time will tell (at least it can't be worse than the last couple of Superman movies . . . right? RIGHT?). In the mean time I guess I really need to get my ass to see Legend of the Guardians to see what a PG “good guys win” Zach Snyder film looks like. What do you guys think, am I being too worried or is this going to end badly?
